About Cost Plus World Market

World Market lives up to it's name. In the 1950s, a San Francisco businessman began selling shiploads of hand-woven wicker from one of the city’s piers. As crates were unloaded, both locals and tourists lined up and couldn't get enough of his wares. It only made sense to open a store. And in 1958 that first store opened in San Francisco. It was called Cost Plus World Market. Anyone who craved original and handmade items from around the world flocked there. Items were sold at cost, plus ten percent.
